Emerald is five. She lives with her Mum, and Nanna and Poppy and Uncle Brenton, and Roscoe the Rascal. Roscoe the Rascal is a very old dog. At Emerald's house you can also see kangaroos.

Emerald has family photos and posters on the back of her door, just like Brenton.

Down the hill and across the creek is a huge gum tree. Uncle Brenton put one of Poppy's ropes in it, high up. Emerald swings out over the creek very high. Emerald is a dare-devil..

At church Emerald helps collect the offering. She does this with Keith, who thinks he is the Chief Steward. Emerald knows better. She is the one who puts the offering on the altar. Sometimes Emerald and Rev. Wendy have theological conversations when the offering is brought down the front. Wendy is one of Emerald's favourite people, and she treats her as an equal.

Emerald has excellent spatial intelligence. She hurtles her pedal car around the vehicles in Poppy's shed at frightening speed. Poppy makes her wear a crash helmet. This is good, because Emerald turns and skids very fast. Last time I was there, I thought she would crash into a car! Before I could even speak she had turned and skidded the other way. Emerald is too fast for me! Perhaps she will be a rally driver one day.
