Holiday Bay

The holidays after Christmas have not quite been Grandma out on a dead calm afternoon teaching the kids to fish. But the beach house had been more relaxed than usual, until a power boat roared across Holiday Bay, and left our little tin dinghy pitching in its wake.

A couple arrived for their wedding interview, with two children in tow, no toys, no baby gear for the tired bub who threw up constantly, and an attitude that clearly considered the church as just another shop which should supply exactly what they wanted. The customer from hell can create a fair disruption even in the choppy water of the average retail store, but this pair would make waves at a Boxing Day sale!

Two days after bringing a half full tinny in off the bay, with the grandkids all wet, grandma is still talking about the speeding power boat. "I'm sure they're sinking," she said, "but they won't listen!" Grandpa wondered if they were just having a really bad day, or if they disturb the waters and and leak oil wherever they go.

My heart goes out to two little kids, whose parents' denials are towing them far too early from the idyllic beaches of childhood into adult storms.
